My question: Are Hope and peace really only available through Christ and the atonement? Are any atheists at peace? Can they be at peace without the Mormon Jesus?

Thought: General conference unifies millions of people throughout the world.
That's powerful! Superbowl, world cup, holidays etc also serve to connect people with one another. I think many people really don't care so much what it is that connects them with others - the connection itself seems to be what's so craved. Unfortunately, there are multiple costs to try to belong.
What other organization can unify as much as religious ones?
Is it possible to have such powerful unity while not requiring herd mentality?

I also don't believe in human sacrifice-scapegoating Jesus. To me, human sacrifice & shifting blame are both immoral and poor excuses of hope & peace. However, I believe that each of us craves to be and feel loved unconditionally. That type of pure love cannot be trusted for fallible, biased human beings. So, I believe deepest peace & hope are found through faith in God (however you define God).
I try to imagine God in place of when people worship Jesus. Jesus subconsciously serves as a personification of spirituality - human flesh easier to relate to than "spirit" or "intelligent design."

Now we have proof that MPs will completely and deliberately ignore requests from missionaries who want to go home. Yep, lots of those wrecking balls out there in the mission fields.
Meanwhile, Darth Vader could learn from the message to widen his lens.

Zwick did a good job. He actually had to think outside the Sunday school box to help that kid. And like DPROBERTS said, he used himself as a bad example. I'm giving him another +5
